Recovery of common vole populations from rodenticide application
Project
Project code: JKI-GF-08-1152
Contract period: 01.06.2012
- 31.05.2015
Purpose of research: Applied research
In this project the recovery of common vole populations after rodenticide application is investigated. The common vole (Microtus arvalis) is the most important vertebrate pest species in European agriculture and may lead to tremendous crop loss during outbreaks. Management decisions usually rely on use of rodenticides.
Basic knowledge about population development, migration movements, (re-)colonization of habitats and kinship analysis are used to demonstrate if and to what extent management decisions can be changed and/or optimized. In the context of this project field data on population dynamics, development and abundance will be collected and evaluated.
