Project code: MRI-LBV-08-KA-820-1030
Contract period: 01.05.2011 - 29.02.2012
Purpose of research: Basic research

200 cereal and intestinal samples will be analyzed for the presence of myo-inositol phosphates. Myo-inositol phosphates, especially phytate, are capable of complexing multivalent cations resulting in an reduced bioavailability of the minerals and a missing availability of the organically bound phosphate to monogaster. In respect to human nutrition, dephosphorylation of phytate may increase mineral bioavailability (reduction of mineral deficiencies) and in animal nutrition the focus is on phosphorus bioavailability (reduction of phosphate pollution in areas of intensive lifestock management). In this work the myo-inositol phosphates present in the digestive tract of animals will be quantified. With the data it should be possible to estimate the extent of phytate reduction in food and feed when adding phytate-degrading enzymes (phytases)
