Collaborative project: Development of a software tool for the evaluation, planning and evidence of different housing strategies on the improvement of wellbeing of dairy cows - subproject 2 (CowSoft)
Project
Project code: 2817204613
Contract period: 01.03.2015
- 28.02.2018
Budget: 58,593 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development
Together with the project partner a planning tool shall be developed that considers the knowledge about housing influences on the wellbeing of dairy cows and the results of completing empirical investigations to a computer software. Project phase 1: Outgoing from a critical comparison and evaluation of variants a model for assessing the wellbeing-status (wellness-index) of dairy cows shall be created. The basis shall be results of robust and solid working sensors under practical conditions. Phase 2: This wellness-index shall be evaluated and optimized by empirical investigations at the research dairy “Frankenforst” (Bonn University). Evaluation criteria are not subjective observations but accepted physiological measuring methods (e. g. HRV, activity pattern) Phase 3: At the end of this phase a prototype of a software-tool is available which shall be used in a long term perspective for barn planning and advising services by the company GEA Farm Technologies.
