Project code: 2813IL02
Contract period: 15.10.2014 - 30.11.2017
Budget: 119,564 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: global food security, other industrial plants, resistance, abiotic stress, plant breeding, vegetable production

Tomatoes are a major horticultural crop worldwide. When tomatoes are grown in protective environments (net- and greenhouses), especially in mediterranean climate in summer, the temperatures are so high that tomatoe flower development, fruit set and thus productivity are affected. Little is known about auxin transport and action within floral organs and during fruit development. This project will use molecular analytical chemistry tools to characterise the role of auxin in flower organs and fruit development under high temperatures. The objectives are to: 1. Identify auxin homoeostasis components that function during normal flower organ development and during fruit set and maturation, 2. Identify the auxin derivatives that function in flower and fruit organs during development and 3. to analyse how the auxin levels in flowers and during fruit setting can be influenced in such a manner that heat stress does not affect these processes.
