Quantifying polygene resistance of nematode tolerant sugar beet genotypes
Project
Project code: JKI-A-08-1237
Contract period: 01.03.2016
- 31.12.2019
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: plant breeding, sugar beet, tolerance towards nematodes
Nematode tolerant (NT) sugar beet cultivars are available for growers since 2005. NT cultivars are primarily used in intensive sugar beet production systems in Germany. This type of cultivar is characterized by clearly lower susceptibilities against the Beet Cyst Nematoden (BCN) due to a polgenetic resistance derived from the wild beet Beta maritima. To maintain sustainable us of NT cultivars it is of crucial importance to know more about resistance aiming at evaluation of different resistance patterns. Obejctive of the project is to detect BCN mutiplictaion rates under NT cultivars in a standard assortment. For this purpose a standard test should be developed.
