Description

The Department of Biology focuses activities in research and teaching on three areas of specialization: Biotechnology, Evolutionary Biology and Biodiversity, Molecular Cell and Physiology. Within each of these areas of specialization the conducted teaching and research is interdisciplinary spanning multiple institutes. Between the areas of specialization there is a strong interdigitation reflected by the involvement in various third-party associated programs and the initiation of important teaching and research centers across specialization boundaries. It is this interdisciplinary, interdigitated specialization system that marks the Department of Biology as unique.
