Development of methods for meganuclease transfection without transgene integration (MUTATE)
Project
Project code: 031B0537
Contract period: 01.06.2018
- 31.05.2020
Budget: 348,209 Euro
Purpose of research: Basic research
Keywords: cell transfection, rapeseed, buckwheat
Based on that idea, »MUTATE« encompasses the development of efficient methods for the physical (microinjection), chemical (nanoparticles) and biological (virus induced gene editing) transfection of plant cells without foreign DNA integration. »MUTATE« focuses on the integration of meganucleases (as ribonucleoprotein complex) into regenerative plant tissue, e.g. pollen, to directly facilitate manipulation of the germline. In that process, aspects, such as gene-free transfer techniques and the genotype-independent and tissue-culture free applicability should be emphasised. As »MUTATE« is a feasibility study, the initial experiments will be conducted on the model plant tobacco and subsequently the transferability to crop plants, such as rapeseed and buckwheat, will be tested.
