Evaluation of plant genetic Ressources of barley and wheat for resistance against aphids
Project
Project code: JKI-RS-08-3372
Contract period: 01.01.2011
- 31.12.2015
Purpose of research: Applied research
Aphids are economically important as pest and virus vectors. Wheat and barley are regularly attacked by different cereal aphid species, where they reduce the yield by its feeding and transmission of the barley yellow dwarf virus, mainly in winter cereals. It is to test, what natural resistance against aphids exists in plant genetic resources (PGR) as base for resistance breeding. Evaluation will do in screenings and trials in the field with natural occurring of aphids. In climatic chambers the population development will tested on selected accessions with the different aphid species, followed by laboratory investigations to the fitness and the feeding behavior on accessions with proved resistance.
