Collaborative project: Identification and mapping of QTL for Septoria tritici resistance in the wheat accession HTRI 1410 - subproject 2
Project
Project code: 2814601713, JKI-RS-08-3384
Contract period: 01.09.2014
- 31.10.2017
Budget: 123,360 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development
Zymoseptoria tritici, the causal agent of Septoria tritici blotch is present worldwide and has gained importance due to changes in wheat cultivation, causing yield losses of 20-40% in case of epidemic. Aims of the proposed project are the exploitation of the resistance to Z. tritici of the gene bank accession HTRI 1410 via genetic analyses and development of molecular markers and its utilization in wheat breeding, in order to broaden the genetic basis of resistance to Z. tritici in wheat. The resistance of a DH population, derived from crosses of HTRI 1410 to three susceptible cultivars was tested in field trials and under controlled conditions with defined isolates of Z. tritici. Based on the phenotypic and genotypic data of the DH lines, three QTL involved in resistance were detected in field trials and 17 QTL in isolate specific detached leaf assays. The developed KASP markers can be used for accelerated introgression of this resistance into adapted breeding material.
