MedVet-Staph

Project code : 01KI1014A/F + 01KI1301A/H Contract period : - 2016

The research network MedVet-Staph is focused on the occurrence, dissemination and biological characteristics of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria and methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) in particular which are transmittable from animals to humans or vice versa. MedVet-Staph is analyzing the virulence, pathogenicity, antimicrobial resistance and host-sell interaction of these bacteria as well as the mechanisms facilitating a transmission between humans and animals. Moreover, phylogenic changes of zoonotic S. aureus are assessed. Furthermore, the research network elucidates the consequences of a zoonotic S. aureus/MRSA reservoir on the health of humans and animals and the mechanisms enabling their dissemination among animals, in humans healthcare facilities and in the food chain.
