Distribution of quality determining compounds in tart cherries. Part 2: Profiles of plant volatiles in cultivars, wild genotypes and breeding populations as well as their correlation to anthocyanidine profiles
Project
Project code: JKI-ÖPV-02-1268
Contract period: 01.09.2007
- 30.11.2009
Purpose of research: Basic research
The substance groups of volatiles and anthocyans are responsible for parameters like flavour, healthy value and processing quality. In analogy to other fruits a genetical relation between these groups is assumed. In part one the high diversity of anthocyan patterns was demonstrated. In the present project the correlation between volatiles and anthocyans has to be examined. Using the plant material of the cherry breeding program of IOZ the metabolite profiles will be measured in selected genotypes of cultivars, wild types and populations. In parallel the anthocyans will be measured in the second harvest year to estimate the influence of climate. Thus the applicability of genotypes as donors for aspired traits is available. The results of the project support the targeted selection of cherries regarding positive metabolites. Additionally the applicability of the analytical methods for the rating of cultivars and breeding material is examined.
