Occurrence of polyacetylenes with healthy properties in selected horticultural plants
Project
Project code: JKI-ÖPV-08-1259
Contract period: 01.08.2006
- 30.07.2008
Purpose of research: Basic research
It is aimed to analyse selected plant species (aroma plants, medicinal plants, vegetable species) with regard to the occurrence of polyacetylenes. The determination of these substances will be done by HPLC-MS evaluating also the existing data described in literature. If needed NMR studies will be performed in closed cooperation with a partner from the university in order to get additional data for the identification of unknown polyacetylene substances. The obtained analytical results will provide important information as to which plant species could be suitable for the production of polyacetylene-rich extracts with possible usage in phytopharmaceutical products. Furthermore, recommendations will be provided as to which plant types or cultivars are of special interest for human nutrition regarding their benefical polyacetylene profile.
