Development and selection of pear genotypes with resistance to fire blight
Project
Project code: JKI-ZGO-08-4173
Contract period: 01.10.2013
- 30.09.2019
Purpose of research: Applied research
This project is aimed at the development and selection of pear genotypes with resistance to fire blight. Part of the material has been established using the donors Harrow Sweet and Pierre Corneille, which is low to medium susceptible to fire blight. The introgression of resistance to fire blight from Kieffer and Hasselparon by crossing is planned. Phenotyping will be done according to the approved method applied for apple, i.e. grafting of scions on rootstocks and following inoculation with Erwinia amylovora in the green house. Parents of the crosses will be analyzed with markers linked to fire blight resistance available for apple and pear. If markers are present the respective progenies will be genotyped to determine genotype-phenotype congruence. This is a first step in the breeding of fire blight resistant pear cultivars which promotes the strategy of the ministry to produce healthy fruits for the consumers by sustainable production.
