Distribution of quality determining compounds of tart cherries. Part 1: Anthocyanidin profiles
Project
Project code: BAZ-IPA-02-1258
Contract period: 01.06.2006
- 31.08.2007
Purpose of research: Basic research
The colour of plant materials is mainly influenced by the glycosides of anthocyanidins, the anthocyans. Taking cherries as an example, the anthocyan profiles of distinct genotypes (cultivar, wild species, populations) will be determined and the correlations of the individual substances among each other investigated. The known analytical laboratory methods are modified in such a manner that they provide cultivar-specific information on the occurrence and the amount of the substance investigated. In cooperation with the Institute of Fruit Breeding, cherry populations are being evaluated to get knowledge on the variability of the anthocyans. Further statistical evaluations will generate correlations as to the way of heritability. This will lead to conclusions on the suitability of the genetic materials for breeding purposes. The results of these investigations serve a target-oriented selection of cherry fruits with valuable compounds. The qualification of the analytical method for being used in the ranking of cultivars or clones will be tested with a view to standardization.
