Aim of Scale-N is to achieve food security of the population in rural Tanzanian by supporting and further development of diversified and sustainable agriculture. The reduction of malnutrition and undernourishment of rural dwellers should in this context be achieved by the development of nutrient sensitive modifications in agricultural production, processing and nutrition behaviour as well as education. The working scheme of Scale-N includes a nutritional status analysis as well as a participative approach towards inventory and further development of local nutrition value chains with regard to agricultural products. In this context, local and regional stakeholders will be embedded in the project from the very start by applying a participative approach meaning joint decision making and development of project foci in the areas of resources, production, processing and consumption. The identified nutrient sensitive products (outcomes of nutrient status and value chain analysis), will be integrated into tailored education programs and disseminated on local, regional and national level.
