Fraunhofer Institute of Toxicology and experiment ... (ITEM)
Institution
Section overview
Description
Research for human health is the focus of the Fraunhofer ITEM: both under aspects of preventive medicine – with studies and risk assessments in environmental and occupational toxicology and consumer protection – and with regard to the development of diagnostic techniques and innovative therapy approaches – with investigations in drug research and development. Research activities and services offered thus range from studies in the areas of occupational and environmental toxicology and consumer protection up to pre-clinical and clinical drug research and development, from allergy and asthma research up to the assessment and registration of chemicals, biocides and pesticides. For more than 20 years already, the Institute has been successfully engaged in contract research for customers from industry and public authorities.
Activities
- Research
Parent institution
Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der angewandten Forschung e.V. (FhG)
Coordinated projects
- Animal study to investigate the bioavailability and metabolism of 3-MCPD esters
- BioMass-PM: Clean biomass combustion in residential heating. Particulate measurements, sampling, and physicochemical and toxicological characterisation
- Investigation of the bioavailability and metabolism of fatty acid esters of glycidol
- Prevalidation for testing the toxic effects of inhaled active substances (gases) after direct exposure of lung cells of people in the Luft-/Flüssigkeitsgrenzschicht
Involved in research projects
- 28-Day Oral Toxicity Study with 2-MCPD-Diester
- Detection and analysis of hepatotoxic modes of action for the prediction of carcinogenic effects of chemicals in the subacute toxicity test (repeated dose 28-day oral toxicity study/ OECD TG 407)
- Haemoglobin adducts of glycidol as marker of exposure of glycidol fatty acid esters:Development of methods and human trial
- Histopathological examination of liver and lung as well as blood analysis of rats which wereorally treated with selected pyrrolizidine alkaloids over 28 days
- Identification of new molecular proteomic biomarker for the risk assessment of food related compounds; heat-tox products as important example (furan fatty acids and 3-MCPD)
- Oral 28-day toxicity test in rats using the benchmark dose approach (adapted from OECD TG 407)
- Proteomic analysis of effects induced by 3-MCPD and 3-MCPD fatty acid esters in rat liver and kidney
- Proteomic investigations into 2-MCPD and 2-MCPD-distearate-induced effects after 28-days subacute oral treatment in rats
- Proteomic investigations into silver nanoparticle-induced effects after 28-days subacute oral treatment in rats
- Subacute toxicity study with AgPURE silver nanoparticles and silver nitrate in the ratand subsequent proteomic analysis
