Description
Kiel's location on the open sea is the basis of the widely diversified and internationally reputed marine research closely networked with other disciplines. Whether biologists, chemists, geologists or physicists — anyone interested in exploring the secrets of the depths of the world's oceans will find optimum working conditions in the CAU and its affiliated institutes. The Baltic is a focus of various projects in almost all academic areas. The intensive interdisciplinary preoccupation with the legal and social systems of north-east Europe as well as its history and the various languages and literatures reflects Kiel University's commitment to the Baltic region as point of crystallization. Economists have decisively influenced Kiel's research profile. The Kiel economics and business administration departments maintain especially close links with the Kiel Institute for World Economics, which is affiliated with the CAU. Numerous large-scale projects in progress at Kiel reflect the many points of intersection between the natural sciences, agriculture and the nutritional sciences. The aspects of ecological research and consumer protection particularly profit from the University's interdisciplinary research programmes.
