Purpose of research: Basic research
The elicitation of effective host defence against microbial pathogens requires the early detection of infectious agents and the expression of genes regulating the anti-microbial responses. The NF-κB and p38 signalling pathways are activated upon recognition of microbial components by Toll-like receptors and are involved in the regulation of immune responses to infection. Our aim is to investigate the cell-specific function of TLR and TNFRI signalling, and of the NF-κB and p38 pathways in the immune response to bacterial infection. We will address this issue using relevant genetic mouse models and will focus particularly in unravelling the specific function of NF-κB and p38 in regulating the transcriptional response of cells to infection.
