ATB Department Engineering for Livestock Management
Institution
Section overview
Description
Management methods for productive livestock must allow farmers to work competitively and environmentally soundly and ensure high consumer acceptance by guaranteed product quality. New-developed procedures and technical solutions serve the improvement of the added value and competitiveness in the rural space. They take the interests of environment, animal and consumer protection as well as the sustainability into account at the same time. The optimum use of electronics and automation is an essential prerequisite here. The use of sensors creates precise data bases at it at a minimal expenditure of work. Only by 'Precision livestock farming' a comprehensive keeping of animals suitable for environment and manner gets possible.
There are researched once basic problems of automated capture and processing of animal data, udder-gentle milking, supervision of udder health and milk quality, ergonomic analysis for stress in milking parlours for milker, reduction of pollution caused by emissions and airborne substances from animal husbandry and organic fertilizer.
Furthermore there are researched on applied problems of new animal housing systems, pumping of agricultural slurries and modelling of animal housing climate and for the usability for thermal imaging in animal husbandry. This increasingly requires the development of the science co-operation with touching research facilities at the solution of engineering fundamentals and biological knowledge.
