WASCAL (West African Science Service Center on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use). Work Package 4.4 Politics of Adaptation
Project
Project code: keine Angabe
Contract period: 01.10.2012
- 30.04.2016
Purpose of research: Applied research
The team of the work package studies interactions between farmers, herders and other stakeholders. Politics plays out in administrational procedures, as well as in flows of information and funds. We will analyze how climate change information is understood, translated and appropriated by state authorities, civil society, and individuals in the form of media coverage, agricultural extension work and campaigns. Special focus is given to the governance of climate change adaptation programs, the dissemination and uptake of climate information as well as to programs to enhance food security. We also study the involvement of pastoral communities in violent conflicts ascribed to competition over natural resources and elucidate other drivers of conflicts.
