FOR 948: Nitrogen uptake, metabolism and remobilization in leaves during plant senescence
Verbundprojekt
Koordinierende Einrichtung:
Leibniz-Institut für Pflanzengenetik und Kulturpflanzenforschung
DFG-FOR948 is funded by the DFG to research nitrogen uptake, metabolism and remobilization in leaves during plant senescence. An integrated approach is undertaken to improve the basic understanding, prognosis and modulation of N retranslocation during senescence for an efficient use of nitrogen input in agricultural plant production.
In order to meet this challenge, the research group is composed of plant scientists with agricultural and/or molecular biological background and a seed breeding company integrating studies at the molecular, biochemical, physiological, cytological and whole-plant level. Target crops are oilseed rape and barley. The model plant Arabidopsis thaliana will be used for the identification of key genes regulating senescence and for their functional characterization by reverse genetic approaches.
